Writing Analytically Chapter 4 Strategies
Passage-Based Focused Freewrite
The passage that i chose came from the Book Thief and it the part when Hans is telling Liesel about Max. This so far has been one of most important scenes. This scene kind of sets up the rest of the book. What Hans is telling Liesel is a very important secret. You can tell how serious this secret was because Hans was threatening to burn Liesels books if she tells anyone, and we all know that Liesel loves books. If Liesel tells anyone the whole book could take a turn for the worst. Liesel's foster parents would be taken away and she would be separated from her family. The trust that Hans has in Liesel is evident in this scene because this secret could cost Hans and Rosa their lives if anyone finds out. It takes a lot to trust a 13 year old girl with a secret that could be life threatening.

I totally agree. I think the whole situation with Max coming to live with them is risky. Then for Hans to tell Liesel about it adds a completely new element to the story. For a while i thought she would tell Rudy, but when she didn't i realized how advanced Liesel really is. Yeah she is only 13 but her knowledge far surpasses that of a normal 13 year old.
ReplyDeleteAnd, you have to consider.....stay with me on this one...Liesel is an outsider and therefore she already has an advanced sense of maturity--especially with her bio parents being out of her life. In this way, she is more like a Jew than we give her credit for. What do you think?
