Schindler's List was a great film over a dark era in history. It shows the change of a selfish business man Oskar Schindler to a helpful almost saint like figure. Schindler in the beginning of the movie was only hiring Jews to work for him because, they would work for cheap and it saved him some money. Schindler was hard character to read you never really knew how we was feeling until one of the last scenes of the movie. Schindler's factory soon became the difference between life and death for many Jews. Many people wonder what made Schindler change his mind and start to lend a helping hand for Jews. Schindler had two responses, "I knew the people who worked for me. When you know people, you have to behave towards them like human beings." Schindler also gave the reason "There was no choice. If you saw a dog going to be crushed under a car, wouldn't you help him?"(Keneally). Schindler knew the predicament that the Jews were in, and its just human nature to help.
When you compare the book to the movie you can see some slight differences. The main difference that I picked up on was the movie tried to have a happy ending. There is no way that a movie over the holocaust should even come close to a happy ending. How could the death of about 6 million jews possibly end in happiness? I can't even begin to fathom the thought of a happy ending. The ending to the Holocaust will always be a gloomy subject and one that people will always see as horrible. This also shows how heroes arise in darkest moments. Schindler was a great man that gave up his own wealth for the salvation of saving Jewish lives.
